Readers: 50 centavos fare cut an insult to riding public

50 CENTS ONLY? Although jeepney passengers are happy at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) implementation of the reduction of jeepney fare from P8 to P7.50, many are saying they felt insulted rather than grateful.A fruit and vegetable vendor who commutes to Carbon market everyday said, “Ha? 50 sentimos ra? P6 ang minimum sa una. Dapat ibalik nila sa P6. Dapat P2 ang i-minus sa plitehan. Atimana, mas nibarato baya ang gasolina karon ikomparar atong wala pa ni-increase.” A college student was also upset and said, “Unfair gud ana. Grabe ka-greedy ning mga transport group.”

NO CHANGE. Another regular commuter said he has serious doubts that jeepney drivers will give 50 centavos change to their passengers as it has always been the practice of jeepney drivers not to give 50 centavos back.He said, “Dili man gyud na sila mosukli og 50 sentimos. Insultuhon pa ka kung imong pugson pangayo imong sukli. So murag bali wala ra ang mando sa LTFRB.”
