Law vs. giving alms violates God's word

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

There are people, mostly Spanish language-oriented, who pronounce Mr. Bolante's nickname Joc-Joc as Hoc-Hoc. Not Joke-Joke. I think Hoc-Hoc is libelous in the context of the accusation being hurled against the former undersecretary of agriculture. That is, as far as Binisaya is concerned.

I was listening to an open forum on tv with professional journalists being questioned by campus journalists. One of the questions was: "What is your greatest fear as editor?" One editor answered: "I fear being shot." Then he laughed. Maybe he was just joking.

Me, my greatest fear as editor are the typographical/proofreading errors. These errors could also result in your being shot. How would a lady government official feel if she's quoted as saying: "I love the Cebuano pubic." When it should've been "public."

Recently, there was a line in my column that said: "Ate Glo is now afraid of her critics."It should've been "not." And there was this quote attributed to a politician: "A horse divided against itself cannot stand." Naturally, how could it. But "horse" should've been "house."

Levity aside now, in his well-read Philippine Star column last Saturday, Fr. James B. Reuter, a well-loved Jesuit, said: "All of us will go home (to the next world) someday, and stand alone before the great white throne of God to be judged ... But the only one criterion for the judgment is: "So long as you have done it to the least of these, my little ones, you have done it to Me."

Continued Fr. Reuter: "Every centavo you give to someone in need, you are giving to God ..."I could not reconcile this with the law (passed as a Presidential Decree during the Marcos dictatorship) that makes it a crime for anyone to give alms to someone in need (like the beggars).

The news says Mayor Tom O is coming home this Friday after his health check and surgery in the US. That means Hizzoner is now in tip-top shape capable of taking the verbal assault from Guv Gwen if and when she decides to break her self-imposed truce while Tom O was still in his sickbed.

BOBIT SAYS: "Jesus love has no limit. Jesus' grace has no measure. Jesus' power has no boundaries. May you have Jesus' endless blessings today and always."
