Those who think it's going to be Obama should remember Dewey in '48

U.S. ELECTION. The presidential election in the US is today (Nov. 5 RP time) not yesterday as reported in The Ear. Many are betting on Sen. Barack Obama who forecasters think would win by landslide. Don’t count the votes before they’re cast. Back in 1948, Republican prexy bet Thomas Dewey was so popular experts thought he’d win by landslide but lost to the Democrats’ Harry S. Truman.

WRONG GUESS. Many observers thought Dewey would win hands down. Even one major New York daily bannered “DEWEY WINS’’ even while voting was still in progress. The eargeness to score a scoop ended in what the RP press calls “kuryente.”
