First it was milk, now dolls

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

After milk, the doll is now being watched for being hazardous to health. The toy doll, that is. The doll played by children.

The dolls which old men play with are not hazardous to health. They’re hazardous to the pocket. No, no I’m not speaking from experience.

The Philippine Dream, that giant tourist ship with a gambling casino, restaurant, hotel, etc. has disappeared from the waters of Cebu. The Dream vanished while the authorities were in deep slumber?

The US is deporting controversial former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn Bolante. The senators are now itching to collar him. Joc, Joc, Joc!

It says here that a fish farmer in Mindanao is raising quality crabs for export. If he makes good, he should beware of the human crabs.

All Saints Day and All Souls Day are just around the corner. Many guys I know are now dying to go home and pay tribute to their beloved dead.

MILF’s notorious leader Abdullah Macapaar alias Commander Bravo has surfaced and immediately let go of a barrage of insults to President Arroyo. In an Associated Press story based on an interview with ABS-CBN, Bravo said:

* * *

• “We as Muslims own Mindanao. You (Arroyo) have no right to Mindanao.”

• “If you (Arroyo) want war, then war it will be.”

• “We will fight to the last man until MILF achieves its goal of independence for the Bangsamoro people.”

• “Mag-giyera tayo kung kailangang mag-ubusan ng lahi.”

* * *

With such belligerent posture, how could the Arroyo administration hope to achieve peace in Mindanao?And what is GMA’s reaction to the belligerence of Commander Bravo? In effect, Bravo has already declared war against the government.

I’m happy to learn that my good friend and esteemed colleague Maning Satorre Jr. continues to read me even if he’s 10,000 miles away in LA, California. Thanks to the Philippine Star website (www.philstar.com) where The FREEMAN and Banat News are found. Maning, who used to be a pillar in Cebu journalism, has been in the US for some years now. His “bad health” is the reason why he got stuck in LA.

I think this answers the question posed by many of our mutual friends here in Cebu. Whenever there is a gathering of newsmen, Maning’s name would invariably crop up. “Which means,” says Loy Jurado, one of Maning’s close friends here, “MSS Jr. is missed.”
