Anti-mendicancy law "born" under Marcos' New Society?

ALMS-GIVING A CRIME. Once again the public is reminded by the Anti-Mendicancy Board of the law against begging and giving of alms to beggars. Many are calling this an unchristian law but since it is the law this ban must be respected and followed. But a member of a civic club told The Ear; “Di ko mosunod sa balaud nga supak sa kasuguan sa Ginoo kinsa miingon nga tabangan ta ang gigutom ... Ug di ba nga gigutom kining mga makililimos?”

MARCOS LAW. One of the planners of the New Society of President Marcos was heard telling some friends after his retirement that the law against mendicancy was the “‘creation’ of the Dictator.” He wanted to ban mendicancy to make the world believe that under his New Society there were no beggars and everyone was living a life of contentment,” revealed this former key man in the “Marcosian” New Society.
