The miniskirt is back

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

RP is perceived to be doubly corrupt this year over last year’s perception. This according to the Transparency International. Our crooks must’ve been working on the double.

The Cebu City Council wants to get rid of those controversial super-expensive decorative lampposts which the city councilors now call “monuments of corruption.” These “monuments” are among the proof of our country’s being tops in corruption.

Commenting on the “fate” of these expensive decorative lampposts turned eyesore, a retired government official (now 82) said: “Hambugero man gud ta. Gustong mopasikat ngadto’s mga langyaw (Asean delegates). Bisan nagkagidlay gustong magpabilib nga dunay ikabuga. Karon tan-awa ... minilyon ang nausik. Ang mga kurap ray nabulahan.”

The price of clothing material has been rising. And with its rising follow the women’s hemlines. A Hong Kong fashion writer says the miniskirt is back!

A taxi driver said to me: “Nakamatikod bitaw ko nga nibalik nasad ang miniskirt.” He said he has warned his fellow cabbies to be wary of these miniskirts. Three years or so ago, he said, he figured in a road accident because of the miniskirt.

While this cabbie was driving along Jones Ave. (Osmeña Blvd.) he saw a miniskirted woman whose very skimpy maong skirt drew his attention away from the road. He rammed his car into a waiting shed.

Email from Deody Garrido, a Cebuano in Chicago: “When I had a month-long vacation in Cebu last year, my elder sister who teaches in college asked her students (college sophomores) to write down the lyrics of the Pambansang Awit. Not one was able to write the lyrics correctly.”

Mr. Garrido said that in the States many Pinoys sing the National Anthem in English, “because they can understand the lyrics and so they can feel the patriotic message in the Anthem.”

Today’s gloom chaser from Brenda Batuto: Doctor: Misis patay na imong asawa. Pasyente: (Nagtinga) Bubuhii papaako. Asawa: Oi oi oi. Ayaw pagbuot diha. Doktor na nang nagsulti!
