Public school teachers' boo-boo
WEATHER BURAW? A retired English teacher from a prestigious private school in Cebu narrated to the Ear that she was aghast when she heard the pronunciation of a public school teacher in Mindanao. The public school teacher was teaching Science to elementary students. When she said “weather bureau,” she pronounced the word “bureau” as “buraw”. The retired English teacher rolled her eyes upward and said, “Hesusmaryosep!”
HABAL-HABAL OF THE SEA. Another public school teacher, this time from a far-flung province here in Cebu, made another boo-boo, not in pronunciation, but identification. She was seen at a resort in Mactan with her cousin and her friends, among them an Ear informer. When the teacher saw a jetski race across the waters of Mactan, she exclaimed, “Uy! Naa diay habal-habal sa dagat? Ma plat sab na iyang ligid?” Her cousin’s face turned red in embarrassment and told her friends, “Hahay! Paet kung managhan ang ingon aning maestra.”
