Heavy betting in a seemingly innocent volleyball game

NOT SO INNOCENT. The Ear again received reports of gambling in a barangay in Cebu City. The usual tigbakay or cockfight has now been replaced by volleyball. Gamblers from neighboring barangays would flock to the basketball/volleyball court of this urban barangay as evidenced by the numerous motorcycles parked near the court. The Ear informer said heavy betting goes on during these volleyball games, ranging from a few hundreds to thousands of pesos. A barangay resident who regularly bets on these games usually lose or win up to P5,000 per volleyball game. The informer said, “Kung tan-awon nimo, morag ordinaryo lang nga lingaw-lingaw. Gaduwa ra kunuhay sila’g volleyball pero dagko kaayo ang pusta aning mga duwaa.”

ATTENTION MADAME CAPTAIN. The informer is asking whether the female barangay captain is aware of this. “Kung wala kahibalo si Kap aning sugal sa volleyball sa iyang barangay, angay ni niyang ipa-imbestigar.”
