Chop-chop/ Chacha driven

The fear etched in the faces of the fleeing residents, especially the young, is becoming a very familiar sight in this country. Whether our people are fleeing from bombs or from further poverty, the anguished look has become a fixture engraved in the face of Filipinos under GMA’s rule.

Anger is also fast growing within the bosom of more and more hungry, unemployed Filipinos. Even those with jobs are angry not only about the uncontrollable price hikes but most especially about the callous response of the GMA government to the plight of the millions of needy in our country. Anger has built up among many migrants driven out of the country because of very insensitive, corrupt, and morally deprived leadership.

It is also a “chop-chop” leadership, according to Senator Roxas. This government is not bothered if the whole country were “chopped” up into separate units. For the present government, federalism is not really the goal but staying longer in power. If chop-chop or federalism can be the “Trojan horse” that will result in Chacha, why not? There is no stopping this insensitive, “manhid,” shameless government from doing anything and everything, just to stay longer in power!

It is amazing how GMA and her rah-rah boys can even think Chacha with hundreds of thousands driven out of their homes and communities in the last few days still living each day in fear and anxiety.

Did GMA and her government not see the fear and hear the cries of the fleeing powerless? Thank God for the United Nations that promptly and without fanfare came with their truckloads of rice and food and concern for the evacuees!

And what about GMA and her government? Did they see the look of fright, did they hear the cry of despair, the cry for peace among the people of Mindanao ? NO! For if they had the people’s interest in mind, there would have been no bombings until all peaceful measures and efforts were exhausted to bring the so-called “rebel MILF” under control. Assistance would have been speedily rushed to the affected residents and people once their own self-authorized bombings commenced.

Instead, this government rushed to show their true color: That they were only thinking of their own selfish, greedy selves. Rather than move towards the negotiating table to talk peace, to stop more militarization, to care for the displaced, to restore peace and order especially within the hearts and souls of children and their kin, GMA and her kind, instead hurried to seize the moment to expose their real goal: Chacha once again! It is all systems go, a delighted GMA spokesperson announced!

What? In the midst of bombs, fear and despair, they can only talk, see, smell, breathe Chacha?

Why? Because they all want to stay longer in power and wealth!

Talk about the height of insensitivity, of utmost moral depravity!! Imagine, thousands of the Mindanao evacuees are still not over their bombing nightmare and all that GMA and her cabal can think and speak of is Chacha? Rather than order the representatives to go back and provide aid and assistance to their war-affected constituents in Mindanao , the Malacanang-backed House Leader instead gave the command to his cohorts to return to their communities for Chacha consultation!

Why are those in power fearless and shameless? Because they are very confident that they control all other branches of government. How can they get prosecuted when they are in power? They see themselves invincible, as powerful and almighty because they are assured of the loyalty and support of the military, the courts and justices, the House and even the Senate.

Who will want to give up such privilege, such power, such position? Why not chop-chop and chacha and reign forever?

However, will the fearless and shameless be allowed to stay longer by the Filipino people? More and more, day by day, the Filipino people are waking up to the painful reality that the few corrupt and power-hungry will do everything to stay put to selfishly, greedily, shamelessly relish the fruits of power, privilege, and wealth.

There is still silence in the streets and all throughout the country. However, there are more now adding their voices to put a stop to this chop-chop/chacha driven government. These voices have been captured by surveys – will more bravely venture out into the streets sooner or later?

Each day, the number of those who want to finally see the return of justice and the end of widespread greed and corruption is growing. Daily, the hungry and the jobless realize who are truly responsible for their sorry plight. More and more, the oil, food and rice crises are exposing those in power who are shamelessly profiting hugely at the expense of the poor and the needy. Slowly but surely, more are convinced that there is a need for change, away from persistent electoral fraud and dishonesty, away from graft and corruption, away from abusive power that loves to chop-chop and to chacha.
