Letter to the Editor – Hungry drivers

-

It is a sad fact that during these tough times when prices of almost all basic commodities are high, some or most of the tricycle drivers are like hungry beasts ready to devour even your last fifty centavos for tricycle fares. Well, it is understandable. We are experiencing economic crisis and these people seem to consider every coin very important, like a treasure that's hard to find. But with these drivers collecting these fares without  tariffs, it is just so improper.

As an ordinary passenger, we have all the right to refuse to pay the fares they are collecting from us if there's no tariff or written order being placed on these tricycles. Unfortunately, some passengers will just give in to the demands of these drivers. It is a sad fact; even if this seems to be a small issue. But from any point of view, it clearly shows corruption.

Gone are the days that the fare was still P6.00, then it rose to P6.50, then P7.00 and now its P8.00. Even some tricycle drivers don't give discounts to students and to the elderly.

These drivers are hungry for money. They have families to feed. They need it badly. But despite that, they shouldn't be practicing corruption; that is, by collecting fare increases without tariffs. They should bear in mind that they're not the only ones who are experiencing crisis. I guess every person on earth is experiencing such situation.

We hope, that this will be an eye opener to our government officials and to those concerned tricycle drivers. If we really want change, then we must start change within ourselves and in our own  little ways.
