A successful freelance journalist

My young friend Jim Quintos, a business exec, was all set to get married but he figured in a freak accident. He took things with a punny humor, saying: “Sir Nitz, mine is a case of Quintos interruptus.”

I pray that Jim gets well soon. And when he does his marriage would push through and there would be no more “interruptus” in his married life.

The prices of diesel and gasoline have been going up and down and up and down. “Makalibog. Makabuang,” an operator of l0 PUJs was heard saying as he scratched his head. If there would be some transport operators who’d wake up one morning losing their marbles, I won’t be surprised.

Belated happy birthday greetings to Uriel Cruz Vallecera, one of Banat News’ prolific writers. He turned a year older last July l8. Uriel is a tri-lingual writer — in Cebuano, Tagalog and English — and writes impeccably in the three languages. But what impresses me more in Uriel is his professionalism in his craft..

Uriel, unlike many provincial writers I know, doesn’t give any headache to editors. He submits his stories on time and follows to the letter any newspaper’s editorial policy and style. And he doesn’t question editorial prerogatives. Marks of a journalist worth his salt. It is his character as a freelance journalist that has brought him to many successes in his career. Yet, Uriel is as humble as ever — a trait worthy of emulation by our colleagues in the industry.

One tv program I honestly enjoy watching is “Let’s Do Business” hosted by Boyet Cortes every Sunday morning 7 to 7:30 on ABS-CBN. Boyet is another media practitioner I bow to. He knows his work and does it well. He has talent but doesn’t boast, even on a sly. He has terrific sense of humor too.

I find Boyet’s program not only very entertaining but also very educational. And, yes, of course, it contributes to the boosting of small businesses enabling those engaged in them to help pitch-in in the development of our backyard economy. Kudos to you, Boyet, and keep up the good work.
