Letter to the Editor – Discrimination at checkpoints

With the surge of the oil prices, which was pegged at $132 a barrel last week before trading closed, and the need to economize gasoline, the motorbike or motorcycle is so popular among middle wage earners. For as low as P2,000 as down payment, one could have his or her own motorbike within hours of processing and paper works.

But, motorcycles have its own snag especially the fact that the strings of robbery and drive-by shootings around the metropolis are mostly involved with motorcycle riding men. It's not a wonder why most checkpoints conducted by authorities usually cease motorcycle-riding persons.

In fairness to our authorities, they should not single out motorcycle-riding persons (when inspections are done at) checkpoints. They should include four-wheeled vehicles. I also noticed that authorities conducting inspections are discriminating. They would exempt motorists that have classy types of vehicles. While those who are merely riding multicabs or owner-type jeepneys are the ones which are thoroughly searched.
