The saying that the only constant thing is change has been proven true once again. This time, it involves the powerful Roman Catholic Church. The Pope’s chief astronomer has stated that life on other planets cannot be ruled out. Yes, it’s practically an admission that ET can actually exist. And not only can that lovable alien exist, but may very well be one of the Almighty’s creations. And here’s the rub. These aliens may even be free from original sin! Just how lucky are these little green men? Not only are they so far ahead in technology, I assume of course, but have a get-out-of-hell free card as well!
This a total change of view once held by the Holy Church, that we are the only children of God in the whole universe. Rewind more than three hundred years during the time of Master Galileo, when he was making waves with his theories and observations. So amazing and astonishing were his views regarding how the universe was set-up, no less than the Pope took notice. He took notice because they were apparently contrary to the Church’s teachings. And when he started advocating Copernicanism wherein it was not the Earth that was at the center of the solar system but the Sun, the church sought to ban his teachings. So intense was this campaign of the Vatican that he went to Rome to persuade its leaders not to ban his teachings. For his troubles, he was put on trial for heresy by the Church. Of course, he was found guilty, imprisoned then placed on house arrest, and his views banned from teaching. It was not a good time to go against the Church. Of course, we all know who was telling the truth.
Fast forward to 1992, where Pope Paul II expressed regret for how Galileo was treated, and officially conceded that the Earth was indeed not at the center of the universe. Only in 1992. Hellooooo! Can one still say Papal infallibility?
And now, the embracing of the idea in the existence of alien life forms elsewhere. We do not have a monopoly of existence as we once thought. Now, we have the blessings of the Church to believe in that as well. Science and religion coming together at last? Such is change. Or such is acceptance of truth, in the face of regret, even saving face. Ideas once believed to be heretical are now gospel truth.
Looking at another analogy, the very nation who persecuted, ridiculed and ostracized the Black race are now in a position to elect a Black person to be its leader and the most powerful man in the world. Such is change. Such is the power of change. This country of ours would do well with genuine change.
So look to the stars, my brothers. We may have Christian brothers coming down from the heavens, as all is now well with the Church!
