She can’t be a rubber stamp

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -

Blooper in a crawler tv news: “Anak sa usa ka kanhi PBA star gidakop human pasanginli nga namaligyag Cebu.” Ugh!

* * *

From a tabloid reporter’s raw copy: “Ang suspek miangkon nga iyang gipusil ang biktina atol sa hearing sa kaso.”

* * *

Headline boner: “Man is fatally slain.” Another boner: “Peace or war deemed near.” Both boners were found in two separate US newspapers.

I heard many people complain that the City Council is composed of rubber stamps. Well, put in Lahug Brgy. Capt. Mary Ann de los Santos and you’ll have one rubber stamp less.

* * *

Should Mary Ann win the ABC contest and become ex-officio member of the City Council, one thing is sure: She’ll never be a “yes man” because, well, she’s a woman. Hehehe.

* * *

Despite the fact that she’s a woman, Mary Ann has more balls than some honorable gentlemen in the Konseho. Note: I’m speaking figuratively. This for those who can’t see a joke when they see one.

Time was when candidates who lost in elections would blame their loss on “terorismo” and “dos por dos.” Not anymore. In the last barangay election every defeated candidate I talked with blamed their defeat on the massive vote buying by their opponent. “Kusoga sa pinalitay uy,” one luckless candidate claimed. “Bitaw, sa amo sad tag P100 ang palit sa kontra,” said another pildero.

PNP Chief Razon has assured the public that he or the PNP would go hammer and tongs after rogue policemen whose tribe appears to be increasing. Actually, Chief Razon is not the first PNP chief to make such an assurance. Many other big guns in the PNP have made the same assurance. But the rogue cops are still around and proving themselves to be pains in the neck, to put it lightly, for peaceful members of society.

Mrs. Henrietta Dedios (or De Dios?) called up to comment on Ferdinand Edralin’s photo on page one of this paper last Tuesday. She said: “The photo symbolized two things: The will to acquire an education despite hardship and the will of siblings to help each other in acquiring that education.”

* * *

The photo, to recall, showed a boy carrying his younger sister on his back as they cross a river on their way to school. Congratulations to Ferdie Edralin for winning a praise for his photo. Keep on shooting more praiseworthy photos, Ferdie.
