Can the government disarm the Moro rebels?

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   -
"Palace to insist on MNLF disarmament" - Headline. Karon pa? Why only now? The Moro rebels have been arrogantly brandishing their armaments for years!

The Palace, nay, the government is set to disarm the MNLF? Can the government do that? According to one Manila-based columnist: "It is obvious that the government is scared."

The Moro rebels must be splitting their sides laughing at the Palace order to have them disarmed. But let them laugh. Let them die laughing.

Marine Major Gen. Benjamin Dolorfino has admitted that they were held hostage by the Moro National Liberation Front. "In the strictest sense of the word, we were hostaged because we were prevented from leaving the camp," the general said. But he added that it could also be said that they were "hosted" because they were treated well.

Gen. Dolorfino knows how to play with words. But let's salute him for telling the truth. As the GMA-7 program hosts put it: "Walang kasinungalinan. Serbisyong totoo lang." That's what the general did. Although at first he tried to lie through his teeth.

The World Health Organization says anything dirty can spoil the environment. That includes dirty politicians, yes?

The Pulse Asia survey on senatorial candidates leading in the race has been announced. Most of those in Magic Circle of 12 are those whom many friends of mine and I don't want to vote for.

"Kadtong kinahanglang masud sa Magic 12 wa igkita sa survey diin bisan pa gani ang usa ka kanhi lider sa coup natanggong karon sa estakid nakakuhag lugar," my friend Ted Planas said.

You must have seen on tv the day the leader of the coup try in Makati filed his certificate of candidacy for senator at the Comelec office in Manila. He was mobbed by "fans" mostly women. One woman pinched his cheek, another kissed him on the cheek, and others who could not reach him just cheered him and clapped their hands. I could only shake my head as I switched channel to watch the San Miguel Beermen and Red Bull Barakos fight for one of the final slots in the PBA tournament.

"LTO turns heat on smoke-belchers" - Headline. I have come across similar headlines many times before but no positive result has been reported. The smoke-belchers are still around. In fact, some observers believe the number has grown. And the number of people suffering from respiratory ailments must've also grown.
