Letter to the Editor - Will the statement of the CBCP put an end to dirty elections this May?
February 6, 2007 | 12:00am
Were they able to do so during the past elections?
I think our bishops have to be reminded of their first and foremost commitment, to stick to the Word of God, to continually preach it and to live by it.
In Matthew 7:3-5, Jesus said, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank out of your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." They are fully aware that there's much general cleaning to do even within their ranks much more on some of their erring priests.
I just wonder how many "Our Father(s) and Hail Mary(s)" they shall be asked to recite once they confess their sins to fellow priests.
Problems of their own are more than enough to cause them to ponder during the night so why bother Caesar's?
PGMA and company have theirs too and meddling on the affairs of the church are none of their business. As Jesus Christ said in Matthew 22:21, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's". Is there any much better than intensified prayer?
Let us just pray to the Almighty Father that in His perfect time, when all things shall be made beautiful, we shall be given a kind of government that is truly of the people, by the people and for the people.
