A gift to be used wisely

Obesity will be a big problem for the world in 2007. Big problem indeed. And weighty too.
Bobit Avila says the world weights 6.6 septillion tons. Could've been lighter if not for the obesity problem.
I haven't dared ask Bobit to explain how he managed to weigh the world and got the 6.6 septillion tons.
Cebu City Police Office chief Supt. Melvin Gayotin has been replaced by Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comandador. The replacement came as fast as the way they spirited away US Marine Daniel Smith from the Makati jail.
Millions of poor children have no homes according to official UN statistics. Kids in our place are luckier, there are many skywalks to live in.
So 2007 is the year of the pig. Doesn't mean our lawmakers deserve a raise in their pork barrel.
The year of the pig should not be a reason for us to vote for swines in May.
I just received the San Carlos U Christmas card sent to me by Fr. Roderick C. Salazar Jr., Svd. I hope Fr. Rod will not mind if I reprint the message in the card, which I find inspiring. The message entitled "Today" says:
"Today is available for a limited time only. This day is an affirmation. A season full of dreams. A breath of freedom. A celebration."
"This day is a time to love those we understand, and to understand those we have not yet learned to love.
"But perhaps, most important, today is a time to remember that tomorrow comes so quickly, and time is a trust, a gift to be used wisely."
"So you are urged to make a commitment. A lasting commitment to use each day with the knowledge that it's a once-in-a-lifetime affair."
Beautiful message, isn't it? Reminds me of a saying attributed to Winston Churchill that goes something like this: "Take care of today because today is not there to stay."
