Letter to the Editor Why do I read Freeman?
July 18, 2006 | 12:00am
Let me count the ways... Oh, I mean, allow me to cite the raison d'être behind my preference of Freeman over other local dailies:
1. I like how the Editor expounds on the issue, how he expresses his opinion and his matter-of-fact view on the day's particular topic.
2. I admire Mr. Bobit Avila's style in writing his article 'Shooting Straight'. I really do respect his views on politics among other things, his courage in exposing anomalies and the way he makes 'banat' on those needing wake-up calls most especially. I am rooting for you, sir!
3. I am also an avid fan of The Ear and 'Have Bat Will Strike' of Mr. Juanito Jabat. In fact there were two instances when I was able to air my personal grievance I encountered once in my life, which was graciously accommodated by Mr. Jabat when I told him about it. And he never gave it a second thought! I just hope he will never grow tired of accommodating complaints. Wishing you good health and longer life, sir!
4. I am also a follower of the Motorists' Corner even though I do not drive myself since whatever advice or concerns are written and aired by conscientious motorists I usually impart to my husband for his awareness and information.
5. You're 'Grammar Series' I also salute because it helps me bolster my proficiency in word usage as well as my dexterity in the meaning of some words.
6. Lifestyle I also read because sometimes it gives me helpful pointers on clothes and bags. I just hope more on casual attires and please feature also some tips on where to buy not so expensive and affordable clothes, bags, make-up and accessories.
7. Lastly, your Entertainment column because it gives me updates on the latest happenings of some our showbiz personalities. Please feature, too, the whereabouts nowadays of some of Cebu's local talents, ex. Ms. Raki Vega since she's not so visible in the local scene anymore.
You might notice I didn't touch on the headlines and news on gruesome killings and the likes because I find it depressing. I don't even watch news so much because their features are usually on squabbles among government officials and politicians which I believe do not help much on the improvement of our economy, on how to alleviate the living condition of our less fortunate brothers and sisters nor how to solve the country's debt. I just let go and let God do the rest.
Kudos to your newspaper and the people behind it. Thank you for giving us something worth reading daily. More power!
