Finally! A governor with balls!

For our special presentation on Straight from the Sky, we bring you once again Msgr. Cristobal Garcia, chairman of the Commission on Worship of the Cebu Archdiocese who will give us a discussion on that famous icon that the men folk in Manila are so devoted with a passion... the Black Nazarene. I'm sure you are thinking... why talk about the Black Nazarene in Cebu? This is exactly the reason why Msgr. Cris Garcia wants to emphasize that actually, this devotion really had its roots in Cebu 400 years ago when priests belonging to Augustinian Recollects arrived in the Philippines bringing with them a statue of the Black Nazarene. So watch this very interesting show with Msgr. Cris Garcia tonight on SkyCable's channel 15 at 8:00 p.m.

I was taken aback by the banner headline of The Freeman last Saturday, that blared, "Gwen calls for all-out war vs. NPA". Wow! This is the first time ever that Cebu had a governor who made this so public a declaration on the real enemy of our people Communism whose three decades of deception, propaganda, intimidation and the killing of thousands of innocent people continue even today. If you looked at our lady governor, she's so petite, sweet and charming to a fault, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect her to have the balls to make this daring, albeit dangerous declaration which now no doubt, puts her in hit list of the New People's Army!

I will celebrate my 20 years as a journalist come August of this year and early in my career I was faced with the dilemma, whether I should be for or against Communism. Mind you, this was not a tough decision to make because Communism denies the existence of God, hence our fight against Communism had to do with faith. So when I became an Anti-Communist... early in my journalistic career, I got a lot of death threats!

We began with the group called "People's Alliance Against Communism (PAAC) chaired then by our good friend, Cerge Remonde. We got our training from the most unusual source, from Sun Myung Moon's Causa International at a four-day Conference held at the Manila Hotel in 1987.

Our classmates then were then chief of staff Fidel V. Ramos, defense secretary Juan Ponce Enrile and a host of generals and media men, including my good friend, Atty. Frank Malilong who sometimes gets embarrassed about this because we then belonged to the "Moonies". But we didn't join the part about Mr. Moon's religious beliefs, but certainly, we learned a lot of lessons in combating Communism especially how they deceive people.

Yes, it's about time that governors take a key role in combating the Communist threat because the military solution isn't enough. Fighting Communism means also fighting the roots that lure people into ideology of Communism that is already passé, where even in Russia, the birthplace of Communism has even cast away this evil ideology. Fighting Communism is fighting poverty, joblessness and ignorance.

Yes, Communists are great in making false propaganda that many journalists simply print even if it is sheer falsehood. One way is to reinstate the Reserve Officers Training Corps to strengthen our youth against front organizations like the League of Filipinos Students. Because of the absence of ROTC, there's no student group that can put up against the LFS and the other allied front organizations of the Communists.

In Cebu Province, the best way to combat Communism is good governance, something that Gov. Gwen Garcia is doing today... though she still doesn't get the full cooperation of all towns and municipalities. But the best way to start is for all towns and city mayors to declare that they are free of the insurgency so that we can concentrate on the towns that are still infested with Communists and weed out these evildoers whose only agenda is to establish a Maoist form of government in this country. To Gov. Gwen, I salute you ma'am and welcome to the Club of Anti-Communists!

THE BLACKBOX:

I always love to go to Auto shows whenever I can. Years ago, I went to see the fabulous New York Auto Show and I was able to see the 30th Tokyo Auto Show and the many Auto Shows in Manila. So last Friday night, I went to the Ayala Center to see the Auto Show. Near the booth, I was given a brochure of the Auto Show and was shocked to read that Worldbex International the organizer of this Auto Show had claimed their show to be the 1st Auto Show in Cebu! To say that the Auto Show that Worldbex International sponsored over the weekend was the 1st ever Auto Show in Cebu is an insult to Cebuanos!

Wow! We're so damn backward in Cebu... it is only now that we finally had our very own Auto Show! Mr. Joseph Ang and Worldbex owes us Cebuanos an apology for this wrongful claim... otherwise, we will ask our shopping malls to stop them from holding more shows in Cebu.
