Performance enhancement of DepEd personnel

According to Superintendent Recaredo G. Borgonia of DepEd, Division of Cebu Province, "There is one ingredient of high-performance organizations that cannot be left to change, that is people". In the field of education, we want to be sure that DepEd family has the right people in the right place at the right time. This means that the Division of Cebu should have people who can work and coach effectively, delegate and motivate the subordinates, to develop and stretch their knowledge, skills and abilities.

We believe that information with rich and energizing workshop is an essential career investment and the key to becoming a more confident, effective and respectable manager. We emphasize that managers should be concerned with improving levels of performance and fostering a more effective work environment need as models. As leaders, they should maintain flexibility and should know how to mentor and stimulate others to be cooperative and should work at their best through knowing when to be directive, when to mentor, when to facilitate and when to delegate.

A very special feature was introduced during the DepEd conferences, that is the practice session which allowed the group to apply practical approaches from the grouping to a real-life workplace situation as well as feedback and suggestions in improving performance.

Workshop topics should include how to diagnose developmental needs, causes of different problems and how to find the possible solutions, thereby developing every member or group in the organization to solve problems by themselves, not dependent from others.

Many workshops in the DepEd really developed the skills in active listening and responding, so each group can confidently maintain influence in any situation. The subordinates fully understood the dynamics of problem identification and solution, so each member of the organization can act quickly and decisively and stress for a positive solution. Their abilities are also improved, abilities to handle their fellow workers with negative attitudes, thereby minimizing stress to other members, and enhanced good working relationship.

Other benefit derived from DepEd is that, the subordinates can build rapport and consensus by relating to others in a highly interactive level and enabling each member to be empowered with greater and overall effectiveness after the critiquing of the master plan.

After all the recognition of task and relationship among members of the organization are attained, they should have the willingness to take the responsibility in achieving those goals.

All school and section managers should make a direct effort in the suggestions given during the presentation of the master plan and should provide a great deal of direction and close supervision of the low performing schools in the whole division in order to improve the academic performance of their pupils.
