Slanderous attacks against the President

Rey Torres, the "notadong tulisan," had one of his legs amputated. Now he can't run away from the crutches, er, clutches of the law.

Torres should be thankful that although his leg had been cut off, he's still alive, though not kicking.

President Arroyo has been silent about the so-called "Hello Garci" tape. That's playing it safe. As Publilius Syrus the thinker said: "I regret often that I have spoken; never that I have been silent."

The verbal attacks on GMA because of the "Hello Garci" tape seem to me slanderous. And on this, Plautus the philosopher had to say: "Slander-mongers and those who listen to slander, if I had my way, would all be strung up, the talkers by the tongue, the listeners by the ears."

His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin (May he rest in peace) was, according to reports, the 14th of 16 children of his parents. Apparently, his parents did not practice what we now call family planning. Had they did, there wouldn't have been a Cardinal Sin. And the Marcos dictatorship wouldn't have fallen. Just a thought.

I just heard a movie actress say on tv: "One of the thing(s) I like about Cardinal Sin is his sense of humor...I think his humor is so funny." He! He!

"Glo Vows to Stay Till 2010" -- Headline. That's optimism. That's toughness, the stuff great leaders are made of. Let's hope Ate Glo stays, despite this biblical injunction: "Man proposes, God disposes."

Pedrito "Pepe" Santiago, Cebuano engineer now working and permanently residing in New York, e-mailed this message: "From the news media, including the Internet, I learned that not all is well in the Philippines. I'm now an American citizen but my heart is still Pinoy and it still beats for Mother Pinas...Haay, nganong dili man gayud mapatunhay ang kahusay ug kalinaw diha sa atong nasud. God bless."

I take your word for it, Pepe. You're still Pinoy and your heart still beats for Mother Pinas. It shows in your way of speaking/writing Binisaya. Binisaya gyud as in! Thanks for touching base with me.
