Jujiin's eccentric visions

GLORIOUS POPSTAR - Shahani Gania -

The first thing one notices about Jujiin Samonte is the way he dresses — a well-thought-out mess that is original as it is provoking.

One can’t help but wonder who is this social dandy and what does he do? Is he a photographer capturing vignettes with his large DSLR? Or is he a stylist with a rack full of eccentric fashion ideas?

When Jujiin announced that he is, in fact, a multi-media visual artist, an entire flock of industry names, friends and followers came to Trilogy Boutique in Makati on his exhibit’s opening night to see what he’s got on display.

Aptly titled “Exhibit Number One,” Jujiin’s works were a raw and emotional visual parade of “graphically designed three-dimensional artworks, which even if rendered in 2-D still creates a seemingly interesting play of texture, perspective and creativity.” (Roxy Bautista)

Jujiin’s “This Is How We Do Scene” is a cylindrical montage of parties, fashion shows and events that seem to have no ending or beginning; while “Wish You Were Here” shows models dancing to the silent music of a departed dear friend.

Collages of photos printed on acetate, images that are snipped and glued/taped together by hand, Jujiin’s art pieces communicate in a way a toddler would vehemently nudge and bite at.

After the success of his opening night, Jujiin childishly exclaimed, “I want more,” declaring a hunger to keep on creating and presenting his craft to a wider public. As a multi-media visual artist, there’s no telling what he can achieve.
