Mihara's 'New Retro' launched by Puma

MANILA SUNSHINE - Jay Abalos -

I have a confession to make — I’m a sneaker junkie. Nothing fills me with pure, uncomplicated, no-explanations-necessary joy than a unique pair of sneakers. Every time I travel, I always search for stylish, limited-edition sneakers. As for my favorite brand, Puma definitely stands out.

Black Station, Puma’s high-end line features collaborations with recognized designers such as Alexander McQueen, Neil Barrett, and Japanese urbanwear designer, Mihara Yasuhiro.

Mihara’s signature line consists of psychedelic patterns uniquely crafted from unusual materials like leather metallics and industrial studs, marked with Mihara’s rivet logo detailing.

Good news for sneaker aficionados: Mihara’s latest collection called “New Retro” will be launched this February at the Puma store on Bonifacio High Street. The limited edition line will also be carried in Puma stores at Glorietta and Greenbelt 5.

“Out of sports, out of fashion” is the theme of Puma by Mihara Spring/Summer 2010.

To celebrate his 10th year anniversary partnership Puma — making it the longest standing sport-fashion collaboration to date — Mihara revisits his past creations for Puma since 2000, while recreating a more smartly designed and highly engineered type of footwear.

Mihara highlights his latest collection with signature details such as the exaggerated cup-sole heel with melting effect outline, cut-out ankle windows, and the vulcanized foxing tape that wraps around the heel.

One of the must-haves is the MY-1 Reborn, a cult classic piece from Mihara’s first collection in 2000, featuring the 10th anniversary Digi-Cat characters — “Pumaneko” and Kemo-kemo — designed by the Japanese artist Peloqoon. The shoe comes in three colors (black, red, and light blue) with an iridescent Pumaneko hangtag.

Another collector’s item is the MY-47T, a hybrid of two Puma sneakers, which combines Mihara’s exceptional shoemaking skills and Puma’s expert construction technology.
