President Duterte's word wars

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is known for his tough talk and devil-may-care language, especially against critics of his statements or policies.
Duterte has harsh words when it comes to drugs, criminality and corruption, something he got a reputation for as Davao City's mayor for 23 years and endeared him to Filipino voters exasperated by social ills.
The list of people he had disparaged includes the pope, the United Nations, and a US diplomat, among others.
Just last week, he has threatened to leave the international body after criticisms on his anti-drug war. But he later clarified that what he said was nothing more than a joke.
This was not the first time he lashed out against the international body and as the number of extrajudicial killings of alleged drug suspects rises, it probably won't be the last.
