MANILA, Philippines – The traslacion or the celebration of the re-enactment of the solemn transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand to Minor Basilica on January 9 showed the Filipinos’ strong devotion to the Black Nazarene.

The Black Nazarene procession drew over a million of devotees from all walks of life and various ages, who offered over 20 hours in joining the traslacion to worship the Black Nazarene and fulfill their “panata” or vow to the Lord.

Catholic devotees united in faith and joined the Hijos del Señor or the marshals who protect the image and the carriage or “andas” during the procession, as they pulled on and steered the carriage to its direction from Quirino Grandstand until it is returned to its home in Quiapo Church.

It has been a tradition for devotees to kiss and rub towels on the image of the Black Nazarene.
