IN PHOTOS: Boracay in the 1970s
MANILA, Philippines - Boracay Island in Aklan Province is now among the most famous tropical resort destinations, but back in the 1970's tourists were sparse and the beach was almost bare.
Contributor Christian Perez walks us through the island of pristine white sands and blue water in 1979--right before it became a favorite for travelers and tourists around the world.
Shown in this picture is a tourist and two Negrito boys spending time on the beach. A single banca could be spotted in the water. In the background are neither concrete constructions nor contemporary developments, only tall coconut trees swaying with the wind.
Our so-called resort in Boracay was simply called Aguirre's Place, located in the grounds of what is now Bans Beach Resort. A room would cost P7 a night back in the day.
