IN PHOTOS: Pampanga's Giant Christmas Lanterns

The Philippine Star

The City of San Fernando in Pampanga held its annual Giant Lantern Festival over the weekend, with 10 barangays coming up with 20-foot tall lanterns that displayed hundreds of dancing, colorful and intricate patterns and designs. Barangay Telebastagan emerged as this year's champion while Barangays Del Carmen and Sta. Lucia landed second and third, respectively. Locally known as "Ligligan Parul," the famous traditional event of the so-called "Christmas Capital of the Philippines" was said to have started in the early 1900s. PHOTOS BY JOANNE BACANI
