VIRAL: Woman survives horrifying Paris massacre by playing dead for an hour
MANILA, Philippines - "You never think it will happen to you," said Isobel Bowdery, one of the few survivors of the Bataclan massacre in Paris.
Just like everyone else who were inside the Bataclan Theater, Bowdery expected nothing but fun and excitement knowing that one of her favorite bands, "Eagles of Death Metal," will perform a few feet away from her. But what was supposed to be a great night turned out to be one of the most horrendous night she'd ever have.
On Friday, a series of attacks killed at least 120 people in the deadliest violence to strike France since World War II. The worst carnage happened in Bataclan Theater, where people were held hostage and died when the attackers detonated explosive belts.
A few hours after the attack Bowdery shared her experience on Facebook.
Bowdery’s heart wrenching post, which comes with a photo of her blood-stained shirt which gave a side to the massacre that most have not seen.
"It wasn't just a terrorist attack, it was a massacre. Dozens of people were shot right in front of me. Pools of blood filled the floor. Cries of grown men who held their girlfriends dead bodies pierced the small music venue. Futures demolished, families heartbroken. in an instant."
According to her, she pretended to be dead so she could survive.
"Shocked and alone, I pretended to be dead for over an hour, lying among people who could see their loved ones motionless... Holding my breath, trying to not move, not cry - not giving those men the fear they longed to see. I was incredibly lucky to survive. But so many didn't. "
Bowdery went on to share how frightening it was to wait for a bullet to end her life.
"As i lay down in the blood of strangers and waiting for my bullet to end my mere 22 years, I envisioned every face that I have ever loved and whispered I love you. over and over again."
Following the attacks, French President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency and announced the closing of the country's borders.
