MANILA, Philippines – More than 2 billion people on the planet does not have access to reliable and safe drinking water. In line with Bill Gates’ advocacy to address this shortage, the Gates Foundation created a machine that would convert sewer sludge into water.
The Janicki Omniprocessor, as what the foundation calls it is a safe repository for human waste. Aside from converting the waste into water, it also converts waste to electricity and sterile ash that can be used as fertilizer.
To make the campaign even more believable and effective, a video demonstrating how the machine works, with Bill Gates drinking the product from the machine was made.
"The water tasted as good as any I’ve had out of a bottle. And having studied the engineering behind it, I would happily drink it every day. It’s that safe," he says on his blog.
