MANILA, Philippines - As the nation celebrates and honors  workers on this Labor Day, philSTAR.com revisits the latest unemployment and underemployment statistics released by the government.

The Labor Force Survey released in March showed that unemployment rate in the country rose to 7.5 percent or 2.969-million Filipinos in January 2014 from 7.1 percent or 2.776 million in January 2013.

But who are the unemployed? The infographic here breaks it down for us :

 

On the other hand, underemployed persons decreased from 7.464 million to 7.101 million.

Underemployed persons are those who express the desire to have additional hours of work in their present job, or to have additional job, or to have a new job with longer working hours are considered underemployed.
