Meteor shower starting tonight
MANILA, Philippines - The Orionids, said to be the most abundant of meteor showers, can be spotted starting Thursday night and expected to peak on October 21, Monday.
According to Space.com, the bright, quick Orionid meteor shower occurs every October and November and moves at an average speed of 238,000 kph.
State forecasting agency PAGASA said that the Orionids are best seen when the sky is clear and without the flash of the moon.
"A waning bright moon in the sky during the morning hours will wash out fainter meteors and diminishes the impact of brighter meteors.," PAGASA administrator Vincente Malano said in a statement.
Malano added up to 15 meteors can be observed every hour before midnight.
"But sometimes there are lulls even during the traditional maximum peak nights of October 21-22, 2013," the astronomer said.
