Taal Volcano featured in Katy Perry’s music video

MANILA, Philippines - Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez was elated to see the Taal Volcano appearing several times in the music video of Australian singer Katy Perry’s song “Roar.”

Jimenez, who graced the 73rd anniversary of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) yesterday, said he was “very happy” with the positive exposure of one of the country’s famous tourist attractions.

He, however, said he was not surprised that the active volcano was featured in the music video.

“I was not really surprised because it is no secret that when Katy Perry came to the Philippines, she fell in love with the country. I would not be surprised if she made the choice herself, but I do not know that for a fact,” he said.

The music video, which has garnered more than 12 million views on YouTube, showcased the Philippines as a paradise.

Jimenez said the Department of Tourism (DOT) had no hand in the incorporation of Taal Volcano in Perry’s music video.

“We just happen to have a very famous volcano,” he said, adding that someone may have seen it and thought it would complement the video.

Jimenez also said “Roar” will not be the last music video that would feature a tourist spot in the Philippines.

He hinted that other foreign artists may utilize other places here for their music projects, but declined to elaborate.

“It is not my business to tell you. Let us just wait,” he said. “That is not the last. We encourage all our friends around the world to feature the Philippines in a good light.”
