Working 'immortals' lauded online

Camille Diola - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Severe weather conditions on Monday spawned a new breed of citizens dubbed "immortals" for braving the heavy rains and floods just to earn another day's wages.

The hilarious formula categorizing those asked to stay home for their safety as "humans" and those expected to reach their universities or colleges for classes as "fish" spread on social media Monday.

The sarcastic buzzword "imortal" describing "martyred" workers inspired some posts and photos lauding those who still reported for work even as classes and government offices were canceled.

"Saludo sa mga nagtatrabaho ngayong araw na ito. MGA IMORTAL! SUGOD!" Twitter user Lelaiza Jerusalem said.

Many also gave themselves a pat on the back for being dedicated enough to wade through the floods just to reach their workplaces.

"Hindi ako nalunod o nilipad ng hangin. Imortal ba ako?" @dangagaran said on Twitter.

Twitter user Bryan Andico even proposed an extra category.

"So 'pag working student, isdang imortal?" he posted.
