MANILA, Philippines - Eddie Garcia won Best Actor for the movie “Bwakaw” at the 58th Asia-Pacific Film Festival held at The Venetian in Macau Saturday night.
In the movie directed by Jun Lana, Garcia plays a homosexual past his prime who has apportioned in boxes his valuables in life. He finds the true meaning of friendship through his dog, Bwakaw.
It’s Garcia’s second award for the same movie; the first was at the Cinemalaya (Independent Film Festival) last July.
According to Ferdinand Lapuz, one of the producers of “Bwakaw,” the movie has been submitted to the Oscars for next year’s Best Foreign Language Film Category. It was graded ‘A’ by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
The Asia-Pacific film fest is held in a different venue every year, added Lapuz (a Philippine STAR contributor).
Other Filipinos who have won Best Actress in the same film fest were Charo Santos for “Itim” in the early ‘70s and Anita Linda for “Lola” two years ago.
