CALAPAN CITY, Philippines – While Boracay in Aklan and El Nido in Palawan are consistently being dubbed two of the country’s best destinations, Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro catches the most interest among Internet users, according to Google Philippines.
Google released its “Summer Zeitgeist” list on Wednesday, with Puerto Galera, the northernmost town in Oriental Mindoro, as the most searched summer destination in the country.
The local unit of the Internet search giant noted that many Filipinos turn to the computer to search for vacation destinations as the summer season nears its end, it said.
Internet searches showed that the summer capital of Oriental Mindoro in Region 4B is being searched most by web users so far.
In a statement, Google Philippines reported that “many (Filipinos) still do the last-minute destination and hit the beach.”
Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte ranks second in most searched destination among users in the Philippines, followed by resorts such as Bohol Beach Club and Boracay Regency.
Antipolo resorts Bosay and Loreland Farm made it to fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Meanwhile, Splash Island, a water park in Laguna, remains popular as it held the seventh spot, followed by Canyon Cove in Batangas and Subic Resorts in Zambales.
Rounding out the top 10 destinations is La Virginia Resort in Batangas.
Puerto Galera is a popular tourist destination in the country, particularly during the Holy Week.
Earlier this year, CNNGo named Puerto Galera’s The Canyons as among the best dive sites in the world.
