MANILA, Philippines - Lawmakers said yesterday that an “inspired” President Aquino could be good for the country.

Bagong Henerasyon party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy said Aquino’s new inspiration could give him more strength in implementing his “straight path (of) governance.”

Dy said she sees nothing wrong with the President’s pre-Valentine admission that he is now dating TV and radio personality Grace Lee, a Korean national who grew up in the country.

“I don’t think there is anything wrong with it, maybe even better if the President is more inspired,” she said.

Cavite Rep. Joseph Emilio Abaya Jr., secretary-general of the Liberal Party (LP), said the candid admission showed his transparency.

“There is nothing wrong with the President allowing the public to take a peek at his private life. That is a manifestation of his inner sincerity, honesty and transparency. But we should cut him some slack,” Abaya said.

“It should help our foreign relations and I think the President is security conscious enough not to compromise national security,” he added in jest.
