OZAMIZ City – A “widow” in Misamis Occidental is looking for a new mate.
Interested parties may contact the management of Aquamarine Park in Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental.
Manolito Yap, the park’s acting manager, told The STAR they need a male ostrich to pair with a female whose partner died of fatal wounds recently.
“The female ostrich is apparently experiencing lackluster days and looks lonely after her partner suffered wounds when it stepped on a protruding iron bar while roaming around the park’s aquaculture demonstration ponds,” he said.
Yap said the male ostrich died a few days later from the wounds.
The park’s management is now looking for a male ostrich to live with the “widowed” ostrich and hopes to find ways to breed the pair, he added.
Yap said park management’s efforts to breed the former pair of ostriches failed when difficulties were encountered in the incubation and hatching of eggs which had thick shells that weighed over a kilo. Local businessman Eddie Tiu had donated the pair of ostriches that had become an attraction in the park, Yap said. — Lino de la Cruz
