PNP morale booster: 22,452 promotions

-

In an effort to boost the morale of policemen and make them effective in the anti-crime campaign, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has approved the promotion of 22,452 of its members.

PNP chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. said the promotion of the policemen should inspire others to “strive for excellence” in performing the mission to protect and serve the people.

Razon said the people expect no less from the police and “we must not fail them.”

The PNP chief formally administered the simultaneous nationwide oath-taking ceremonies of 22,452 Police
Commissioned Officers and Police Non-Commissioned Officers who were promoted to the next rank.

“This is in response to the morale and welfare aspect of the Integrated Transformation Program that we envision for the organization,” Razon told the troops.

He noted that subsequent adjustments in salary and allowances are set to take effect for the concerned personnel.

The 22,452 newly promoted personnel were composed of 1,876 commissioned officers, and 20,576 non-commissioned officers. Their promotions took effect last Dec. 31.

Director Edgardo Acuña, chief of the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management, said the promotions were provided under the 2007 Regular Promotion Program wherein 29,613 slots for promotion to the next rank were available.

Acuña explained that only 22,452 applicants for promotions were found to have qualified by the national and regional promotion boards.

He said the applications of personnel with pending criminal and administrative cases, and deficiencies in the Qualification Standards such as time-in-grade, length of service, and mandatory training, was denied.
