Philandering 84-year-old killed by partner

A 30-year-old woman, apparently consumed by jealousy, beat up her philandering 84-year-old companion who later succumbed to internal injuries shortly before midnight Sunday in Caloocan City.

"Niloloko lang niya ako. Dinemonyo na niya ‘ko, naghanap pa ng iba (He was making a fool of me. He was already playing around with me and he still wanted to play around with others)," an unrepentant Yolanda Laureano told police investigators after the incident.

Laureano, a native of Candon, Ilocos Sur, was held by police for the death of Mauro Yap Sr., allegedly a retired teacher and the live-in partner of the suspect.

Laureano, who lives at 1301 DM Compound, Caloocan City, meekly surrendered to the police after the incident, but expressed no regret for what she did to the elderly victim.

"Sobra na kasi eh (It was just too much)," said Laureano, who showed up at the station with a blackened left eye and several bruises on her arm, the result of the violent scuffle that led to Yap’s killing.

SPO1 Victor Lalata, officer on case, said the incident broke out around 11:20 p.m. Sunday in the couple’s house.

Laureano, who suspected Yap had been sleeping around, allegedly learned about another object of the older man’s affection and decided to confront him about it. The verbal altercation soon turned ugly with the woman pounding the old man with her fists.

Trying to defend himself, the victim allegedly tried to parry the woman’s assault and struck back, resulting in her bruises and contusions.

A wayward punch from the enraged woman hit the old man squarely on the jaw, sending him to the ground. Still seething in anger, the suspect then grabbed the old man by the hair and pounded his head several times on the hard floor, resulting in his death.

While the story has no punchline, maybe there is a moral: even geriatric Casanovas must eventually retire.
