DBM approves 1,224 additional positions in PGH

To boost health care services
MANILA, Philippines — Up to 1,224 additional medical positions have been created to boost public health care services at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), according to the Department of Budget and Management.
In a statement, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said she approved the creation of additional positions to augment PGH’s existing medical, allied medical and support staff.
The additional positions will be implemented in four tranches, with the first and second scheduled in the first and last quarters of this year, respectively.
The remaining tranches will be made available in 2026 and 2027.
Pangandaman said the approval was in response to a request of the PGH to strengthen the hospital’s organizational and manpower capacities.
The PGH said the additional manpower would help the institution provide more quality health care services, especially to indigents.
Currently, the PGH operates as a Level 3 general hospital with a bed capacity of 1,334.
In granting the request for more manpower, the DBM said it considered the existing organizational and staffing standards for a Level 3 government hospital with a 1,300-bed capacity.
Meanwhile, the creation of succeeding tranches for the approved positions will be based on schedule and subject to the filling of all created positions in the preceding tranche, the DBM said.
