Cop kills van driver in Quezon City road rage

MANILA, Philippines — The policeman who allegedly killed a motorist and wounded another in a road rage shooting in Quezon City on Thursday night is under police custody.
Investigators said EM/Sgt. Randy Tuzon, 48, who is assigned with the Batasan police station 6, was driving his vehicle when he had a traffic altercation with a driver of an L300 van.
Witnesses said Tuzon blocked the van, got out of his vehicle and punched van driver Ronnie Borromeo, 42, before shooting him several times with a handgun.
Police said Tuzon then walked back to his vehicle and left the scene. Seven bullet casings and a fired bullet were recovered at the scene.
According to police investigators, the shooting occurred along Tandang Sora Avenue in Barangay Old Balara at around 6:30 p.m.
Borromeo was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
His companion, an alias Reynaldo, was brought to another hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound in his left hip and thigh.
Investigators said Tuzon surrendered to a police officer manning an outpost along Commonwealth Avenue. The officer brought him to Station 6 where he is being held for homicide and frustrated homicide.
The Quezon City Police District, in a statement issued yesterday, vowed an in-depth and transparent investigation into the shooting and to give justice to the victims.
“Although it involved a member of the police force, the QCPD does not condone a wrong and ensures that the policeman will face a fair and just process of the law,” the statement reads in Filipino.
