Manila to rebuild Pritil market for P283.6 million
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila city government has vowed to rebuild the Pritil public market in Tondo, which was destroyed by a fire two years ago.
Mayor Honey Lacuna yesterday led the groundbreaking for the market building’s construction.
Described as a modern facility with 11,930 square meters of total floor area, Lacuna said the new Pritil Market would have 388 dry stalls, 281 wet stalls, dry storage and ice storage as well as parking spaces for 114 cars and 40 motorcycles, with offices on the roof deck.
About P283.63 million has been allotted by the local government for the construction of the market, Lacuna said.
Public toilets for all genders and persons with disabilities will be provided.
The market will also feature a sewage treatment plant, a waste facility storage and an underground cistern for flood control.
Construction is set to be finished by October 2026.
Tenants should expect “affordable and reasonable rates for occupancy of the stalls,” Lacuna said.
A nearly nine-hour fire destroyed the market on April 28, 2023.
