Kanlaon-hit LGU seeks additional funding for evacuees

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The municipal government of La Castellana in Negros Occidental has asked Malacañang for additional funding to assist its residents displaced by the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.
The local government made the request after it fully utilized five percent of its P17-million calamity, and maintenance and other operating expenses funds for this year.
Mayor Alme Rhummyla Nicor Mangilimutan said the local government spent P32 million for fuel and food of people staying in evacuation centers.
Up to 1,362 families composed of 4,244 people have been staying in different evacuation centers in La Castellana since the volcano erupted in December.
Mangilimutan said she asked P47-million in fund replenishment in anticipation of another Kanlaon eruption.
She said the municipal government spends P300,000 per day for food and other needs of the evacuees.
