Over 400 POGO workers nabbed in Pasay
MANILA, Philippines — Over 400 suspected workers of a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Pasay were apprehended yesterday.
Authorities raided a condominium located in front of the National Bureau of Investigation headquarters.
Inventory of the site is ongoing.
Officials have yet to provide data on the number of foreign workers found during the raid.
Agents of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and other state agencies conducted the operation.
PAOCC spokesman Winston John Casio earlier said they received reports of foreigners allegedly connected with POGOs nationwide and in Metro Manila, particularly in Pasay, Parañaque, Makati and Las Piñas.
98 Chinese deported
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) has deported 98 Chinese POGO workers.
The deportees boarded a flight to Xi’an, China on Tuesday.
Of the number, 91 Chinese nationals were among 450 POGO workers arrested on Jan. 8 in Parañaque. Seven others were held at the BI detention facility in Taguig.
Since January, the BI has nabbed more than 500 foreigners and deported 226 of them. — Evelyn Macairan
