Cops: Slain doctor’s partner eyed as person of interest

MANILA, Philippines — Police are eyeing the partner of the slain doctor, who was found with a gunshot to the head in Naga City, Camarines Sur on Sunday, as a person of interest in the case.

Probers said the partner of Rajean Monette Romualdez, 36, doctor at the Bicol Medical Center (BMC), has not showed up since the killing was discovered.

“Normally, if something happened to your relative, wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend, you are the first person to come forward to inquire about the incident. In this case, he has not showed up and cannot be located,” Naga police spokesman Lt. Col. Chester Pomar said.

Pomar did not identify the person of interest. He said a tracker team is pursuing him.

Romualdez was found dead in her car that was parked near the BMC and the office of the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Barangay Concepcion Pequena at around 2:30 p.m.

A special investigation task group formed to probe the incident is reviewing video footage of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area.

Maj. Gen. Andre Dizon, Bicol police director, said that based on video footage, the person of interest was last seen with the victim at 1:30 a.m. or 11 hours before the body was discovered.

The city government of Naga has offered P200,000 for anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of the killer.
