LTO revokes license of Angkas CEO

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office yesterday revoked the driver’s license of Angkas CEO George Royeca after he took full responsibility after a convoy of motorcycle riders of the ride-hailing app obstructed traffic at an intersection in Cainta, Rizal on Feb. 4.
In an interview with Teleradyo Serbisyo, Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said Royeca could still appeal the decision of the LTO to permanently revoke his license.
“Whatever decision the LTO makes regarding our case, we will fully respect and accept it,” Royeca said in a statement yesterday. “Following the voluntary surrender of my license, we are prepared to face any consequences and adhere to the due process. While we await the LTO’s decision, we remain committed to taking full accountability for our actions.”
“I am taking full responsibility for what happened. It’s better that it’s my license that would be suspended so that our riders who committed the infraction could still continue their job for them to earn a living for their respective families,” he added.
At the same time, Mendoza said the LTO is investigating other Angkas riders.
“Those who participated in the incident are under investigation,” he added.
Mendoza also directed district offices to be on alert.
“We want them to be very vigilant in watching their territory for these kinds of incidents. We want them to be proactive in watching their areas so that similar incidents like this will not happen in Rizal,” he said.
