MANILA, Philippines — Two of the three suspected Chinese spies arrested by authorities on Friday have tourist visas but lacked valid documentation, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

The other suspect has a working visa for a Makati-based company.

Aside from illegal online gambling and prostitution, the Chinese nationals were allegedly involved in espionage activities as telecommunications equipment was discovered at the site.

The suspects will remain in the custody of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission detention facility in Pasay pending their deportation.

“The BI remains committed to strengthening border security and going after foreign nationals who abuse their stay in the country,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.

“This operation is a testament to our dedication to upholding immigration laws and supporting the government’s crackdown on organized crime,” he added.
