Gubernatorial aspirant nabbed for ‘swindling’
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A gubernatorial aspirant was arrested along with three others for alleged swindling in Sibunag, Guimaras on Tuesday.
Margarita Cacho and her secretary Cayetano Leal and two members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were collared in a sting conducted by police officers in her house in Barangay Sabang.
The PCG men allegedly acted as bodyguards of Cacho, who is running for governor of Guimaras against incumbent Rep. Ma. Lucille Nava.
Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, Western Visayas police director, said the arrest was based on a complaint filed by a businessman.
The complainant said Cacho promised to help him establish a motor vehicle testing center.
He alleged that Cacho asked P1 million in exchange for the speedy release of his application at the Department of Transportation.
The complainant said he agreed to give Cacho P400,000 as initial payment.
A team of police officers conducted a sting and reportedly recovered P400,000 marked money from Cacho and two pistols from the PCG men.
