Kanlaon Volcano spews ash anew

MANILA, Philippines — Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island spewed ash again yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the ash emission occurred twice with each lasting three to four minutes.
State seismologists also recorded 11 volcanic earthquakes, including two tremors.
The volcano emitted up to 4,328 tons of sulfur dioxide, which produced plumes that rose 150 meters and drifted west-northwest.
Phivolcs said swelling of the volcano’s edifice continued.
Alert Level 3 remained hoisted over Kanlaon.
Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol earlier warned of another eruption in Kanlaon similar to what occurred on Dec. 9, when the volcano spewed voluminous plumes that rose 4,000 meters.
