12-story school building to rise in Cebu
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education has started the construction of a medium-rise public school building in Cebu.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara led the groundbreaking of the 12-story building at the Don Vicente Rama Memorial National High School in Cebu City.
The project, designed to withstand natural disasters, is the first state-of-the-art public school building in the country.
Angara said the building would house 42 classrooms, nine workshop rooms, an audiovisual room, library, clinic and fully equipped laboratories.
The building can accommodate up to 2,000 students in a single shift and will reduce congestion and ensure safety.
It will also allow more students to enroll in special programs and senior high school.
Angara was joined by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan and Cebu City South District Rep. Eduardo Rama Jr. during the groundbreaking.
